Materials and Metallurgy
Most of the research areas of the Department are less or less traditionally interested in material-related activities. The Metallurgical Headquarters, already an institute, has always been active in metallurgical processes and metallic materials. The Department is also National reference point for Surface engineering of the Italian Inter- University Consortium on Materials Science and Technology (INSTM). Researches on materials therefore cover a vast field ranging from metal materials and alloys, to concrete (ceramic materials in general), to bitumen, to polymers and plastics, to composite materials, to nanostructured materials. Corrosion, Surface Protection, Coatings and Thin Films topics falls into this wide area, as well as analysis of material preparation processes and non-destructive investigations
