HISTORY
The International Summer School on Risk Measurement and Control was born in 2002 as a two-day workshop organized by Giorgio Szegö at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
The two editions of the workshop focused on issues related to Risk Management and Financial Derivatives. Important academics and practitioners from all over the world attended the event. Among them: Helyette Geman (Birkbeck College, London and ESSEC, Paris), Carol Alexander (ISMA Centre, University of Reading, UK), Sanjiv Das (Santa Clara University), Claudio Albanese (Imperial College, London), Jon Danielsson (London School of Economics), Georg Pflug (University of Wien), Francesco Corielli (Università Bocconi), Carlo Acerbi (Abaxbank), Jerry Xiao (RiskMetrics), Giorgio Consigli (UBM), e Damiano Brigo (San Paolo IMI).
The success of the initiative in 2002 and 2003, and the great interest shown by students, academics and practitioners from the banking industry, pulled the Organizing Committee to move to a more ambitious project: the International Summer School on Risk Measurement and Control. In 2004, jointly with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and the University of Lugano (Switzerland), an International Scientific Committee was created. The following European universities are part of the Committee: the Imperial College, the London School of Economics and thel Birckbeck College of London, the University of Bergamo, the Charles University of Prague, the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich, the University Paris Dauphine, the Collegium Budapest, the University of Wien, the University of Lausanne and the Hochschule fur Bankwirtschaft of Frankfurt, University Of Reading.
The first edition (2004) of the International Summer School (ISS), directed by Rita Laura D’Ecclesia (University of Rome “La Sapienza”), took place at the Conference Centre “Villa Mondragone” of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, located in Frascati, near Rome. It was divided into two sessions. The first one focused, as usual, on measurement and control of financial risks. The second focused instead on an issue of relevant international interest today, namely Energy Risk Management.
The following editions of the ISS (2005, 2006,2007) took place at the prestigious venue of the Swiss Institute of Rome (ISR), located in the city centre, and extended to eight days in order to meet the increasing interest in the initiative.
The VII edition was held in 2008 at the LUISS (Libera Università degli Studi Guido Carli) venue and from 2008 the Organizing Committee agreed to organize the event every two years.
The VIII edition for the 2010 is scheduled for the period July 5-9 2010 and will be held at the prestigious Swiss Institute in Rome.
