He has been the tutor of 82 Master Degree Thesis in Chemical Engineering, 188 Bachelor Degree Thesis in Chemical Engineering, Energetic Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and 7 PhD thesis (at national and international level). He was the member of several national panels for the admission to the PhD course, the final PhD exams, and for the allocation of Research Scholarship and Grants at the Department of Chemical Engineering Materials Environment of Sapienza University.

Research Activity

He is the author of more than 200 publications on international journal, conferences proceedings (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4838-7227).

His main research fields are:

- Biological, chemical and electro-chemical processes for industrial wastewater treatment;

- Adsorption and ionic exchange for water and wastewater purification

   - Nano technologies and nanomaterials for environmental remediation

- Energy and materials recovery from industrial wastes.

- Hazardous wastes and byproducts immobilization in cementitious matrix;

- Production of artificial aggregate for concrete

  • He served as a referee for the main international journal in the field of environmental technologies and applied chemistry (top peer reviewer, Web of Science ResearcherID: F-1183-2011).
  • He is currently member of the Editorial Board of:

• Coordinator (Grant-holder) of the TEMPUS project Econano – Curriculum reform and the modernization of Ecology Engineering based in nanotechnology in Azerbaijan (543924-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-IT-TEMPUS-JPCR)
• Unit partner responsible (Sapienza University) of the EU funded ERANETMED project CrITERIA - Cr(VI) Impacted water bodies in the Mediterranean: Transposing management options for Efficient water Resources use through an Interdisciplinary Approach, ERANETMED_WATER-13-051 CRITERIA (2016-2019).

• Unit Partner Responsible (Sapienza University) of the EU funded project ETP-EABiofilms - Techniques for investigating Electron Transfer Processes in ElectroActive Biofilms nell’ambito del FP7-PEOPLE-2009-IRSES (2009-2010).

• Responsible of Sapienza Unit in the project funded by the Italian Ministry of Health: "Biotechnologies for sustainable development", in the 2011 CCM Programme.

• Coordinator of research project funded by MIUR (Italian Ministry of University and Reserch) in the field of PRIN projects (National Coordinator and P.I. of the National PRIN 2008 funded project: On board treatment of ballast water: innovative technologies to control the introduction of non-native species for biodiversity protection of coastal areas)

• He was the PI of several Research Project funded by private companies or public agencies, including INAIL (Italian Workers' Compensation Authority) and ISPESL (National Agency for Occupational Health and Safety).
